Associated Student Body

Since the foundation of the Christian institution in Pasadena, California, which would later move and become Point Loma Nazarene University in 1973, student opinion and student participation in school affairs have been highly respected. Throughout the years, PLNU has experienced changes both aesthetically, as evidenced by new buildings and parking structures, and internally, as seen through the new staff, faculty and students welcomed on campus each year. Amidst the changing times, though, the Associated Student Body (ASB) government has prided itself on consistency in upholding its mission of being a bridge for the student body to effectively communicate its ideas to PLNU administrators in a two-way conversation. As Brandon Hill, Dean of Students, puts it, ASB government has remained “the mouth-piece and ear-piece to the student body.”

The purpose of the associated student body (asb) as outlined in its Constitution is:

  • to provide for meaningful student-sponsored educational, social, cultural, religious, and service opportunities for member students
  • to foster constructive communication and interaction between the members and the administration and faculty
  • to coordinate the activities of student organizations
  • to foster good relations between ASB members and the community within which Point Loma Nazarene University is situated
  • to develop rapport with other student associations with similar objectives
  • to provide opportunities in which members may develop leadership qualities
