1935 Ruth Ernst remembers her days as a student, especially "Senior Sneeks..."
It was winter and the class of '36 was "chasing" the seniors. We arrived for class one morning, and not a senior was to be found, and we concluded they were gone. So the junior class met at the home of Prof. Roy Stevens, our class sponsor and decided to go to the snow for the day. We talked about how our studies were being neglected and there had been some dangerous situations when the chase involved some cars. The class wrote a letter to the administration, recommending that the tradition of the "Senior Sneak" be abandoned and in place the seniors be given the privilege of a mid-year break and the junior class have a one day "snow day." The administration accepted our recommendation and so ended "Senior Sneaks."
For "Snow Day," we went to Mt. Baldy and tobogganed. I liked the way that Henry Ernst was handling the toboggan. Looking out for my safety, I made it a point to ride on his toboggan. On the walk back to the lodge, he asked me to ride home in the front seat with him. There were two people that said they would get carsick if they sat in the back. He didn't say anything so I rode in the back. When we got to Pasadena near where I lived, someone suggested he let me off at a certain corner, but he said he went that way too so he would take me home.
We were married on Sept. 6, 1936. We shared life until Jan. 10, 1998
