1959 Dedication Day - undoubtedly the "greatest day in the history of Pasadena College."

gfx_59_dedicationOctober 9, 1959 was a day long to be remembered and has been termed "undoubtedly the greatest day in the history of Pasadena College." This was Dedication Day when approximately $800,000 worth of new buildings and facilities were dedicated. These new facilities included the President's residence; the additions to Goodwin and Klassen Houses; two regulation tennis courts and the beautiful, modernistic Student Center Building, together with proper furnishing. The last structure contains a large cafeteria, two extra dining rooms and an up-to-date kitchen on the second floor. On the first floor is located one of the most modern and attractive coffee shops to be found in Southern California. A spacious students' lounge and recreation room, restrooms, and offices for the student body president and the staffs of the student newspaper, the P.Cinian, and the yearbook, La Sierra, are also on this floor. At the front approach to the Students' Center is a most attractive patio with tables and chairs set off by green lawns and stately trees.

Dedication exercises of all these new facilities occurred in the Memorial Auditorium on the morning of Dedication Day. There was a great company present, numbering approximately 2000, of distinguished guests, members of the Board of Trustees, and of the other Boards and Councils, faculty members, students and other guests. Dr. Tracy Strevey, dean of Letters, Arts and Sciences, of the University of Southern California, delivered the major address. In the evening, at the new Students' Center Building was held a Dedication Banquet attended by over 700 persons, including some of the outstanding civic business and educational leaders of the Pasadena area.
