Welcome to the PLNU Disability Resource Center (DRC)

We are committed to positive action to secure equal opportunity for qualified students.  Please contact the DRC if you are a person with a learning, physical, medical or psychological disability and desire assistive devices, services, or other accommodations.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to support the ongoing development of an accessible university that embraces and celebrates diversity.  We pursue this mission by:  facilitating effective, reasonable accommodations; educating the campus community about disabilities issues; strengthening collaborative cooperation within the community; and promoting equal access and opportunity for all students.

Our Philosophy

The DRC ensures compliance with federal regulations in order to foster equal access for students with disabilities to all curricular and co-curricular opportunities offered by the university, through collaboration with faculty and staff.

The DRC celebrates and embraces:

  • People as the top priority
  • Respect for all
  • Self advocacy, independence and active learning
  • Grace filled service
  • Responsible action through education of individuals
  • The spirit of equal opportunity in achieving a diverse, inclusive university
  • Persistence and determination
  • Integrity and honesty
  • Maximizing strengths and minimizing weaknesses
  • Adaptability, creativity and flexibility
  • An environment where expectations are clearly set and communicated

Requesting Disability Support

Qualified students with disabilities may be eligible to receive academic support services and accommodations.  DRC applicants must be admitted or enrolled PLNU students.  They must provide the DRC with documentation verifying the nature and extent of the disability prior to receiving any accommodations.  Students who believe they have a current and essential need for disability accommodations are responsible for requesting accommodations and providing documentation to the Disability Resource Center (DRC).  The DRC will make every effort to provide reasonable accommodations for qualified students with disabilities.

Documenting Specific Learning, Physical, Medical and Psychiatric Disabilities

Eligibility is based on qualifying disability documentation and assessment of individual need.  The DRC will accept:

  • Diagnoses of specific learning disabilities that are based on comprehensive, age-appropriate psychoeducational evaluations that are no more than three years old.
  • Current diagnoses of physical or medical disabilities that are no more than three years old and are based on appropriate diagnostic evaluations administered by certified and/or licensed professionals (e.g., medical doctors, ophthalmologists, psychologists, neuropsychologists, audiologists).
  • Current (no more than one year old) diagnoses of psychiatric disabilities that are based on comprehensive and appropriate diagnostic evaluations completed by trained and qualified (i.e., licensed or certified) professionals (e.g., psychologists, psychiatrists, neuropsychologists, school psychologists, certified professional counselors, licensed therapists or social workers.) Students are encouraged to contact the Disability Resource Center Director to begin the accommodations process.
