IX. EVALUATION OF FACULTY
It is the
responsibility of the department chair/school dean to recommend the renewal
of all department/school faculty on an annual basis. For this to occur,
each chair/school dean must carefully evaluate each member in the department/school.
- Full-Time
Faculty
The chair/school dean is to
contribute to each department/chair faculty member's evaluation
by completing the Faculty Evaluation By
Peer form (In Forms Central). This is
completed on the schedule outlined in the PLNU Faculty
Handbook (Peer
Evaluation, chapter IV, section Q). In
anticipation of this, the chair/school dean is encouraged to observe
the faculty member teaching and read the student, peer, and self evaluations. It is the responsibility of
the chair/school dean, while working with the college dean, to offer
commendations and suggest areas of improvement.
- Adjunct
Faculty
Adjunct faculty make a
valuable contribution to PLNU and are often employed
semester by semester. While they do not fall under the
same evaluation process described in the PLNU Faculty
Handbook for full-time faculty, it is imperative
that their work be evaluated. The department chair/school dean should
meet with these people periodically and see that they
distribute student evaluations in all their classes.
Annual recommendations regarding continued employment are
to be submitted to the college dean.
