II. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES OF
DEPARTMENT CHAIRS / SCHOOL DEANS
The
department chair/school dean shall be the official representative and
spokesperson for the department/school, both with respect to the
internal administration of the University and with respect to the
public at large. The chair/school dean shall give leadership in the
development and implementation of departmental/school programs. He or
she shall supervise the academic and non-academic personnel in
the department/school and shall encourage scholarly activity and
effective teaching on the part of department/school members.
The
chair/school dean is directly responsible to the college dean for the
performance of his or her duties and the functioning of the department/school. He or she shall submit to the
college dean an annual
evaluation of the department/school teaching faculty and of the state of
the department/school, including projections for future needs and
changes. The chair/school dean shall also work closely with other faculty
members and administrators in the implementation of program and
personnel policies.
