The Department of Art and Design is seeking highly-qualified candidates for a full-time, tenure-track teaching position in Graphic Design. Responsibilities will begin mid-August 2008. Academic rank and compensation levels are dependent upon the education level and experience of the appointee. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. Responsibilities:
- Teach undergraduate, studio-based design courses covering both print and digital media.
- Teach discussion-based design history and design theory courses.
- Oversee and lead graphic design program.
- Participation in departmental and university governance including committee work and academic student advising.
- Develop and maintain relationships within professional design community of San Diego.
- Membership and activity in the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA) is preferred.
- Additional consideration will be given to candidates with experience in illustration and/or digital photography.
Qualifications:
- Education: M.F.A. in Graphic Design is highly preferred.
- Experience: Teaching experience and at least five years of professional experience are preferred.
- Technical: Thorough knowledge of the Macintosh platform and current design software (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, QuarkXPress, Dreamweaver, Flash) is required. Experience in screen-printing is preferred.
- Philosophical: Thorough commitment to the concept of Christian liberal arts education. Desire to work in an evangelical institution in the Wesleyan tradition. Supportive of the religious and educational goals of the university and its sponsoring denomination.
- Personal: Evidence of Christian commitment and active church involvement.

Selection Process:
Applicants will be expected to complete the application process described in the link below. All applicants will be reviewed and evaluated by a search committee. From this pool of applicants, a limited number will be selected for an on-campus interview. The interview process will include:
- Dialogue with students and faculty in the department.
- Public presentation or lecture to department faculty and students.
- Interview with the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.
- Interview with the Provost.
- Interview with the President of the university
