Point Loma Nazarene University is seeking to fill a fulltime, tenure track faculty position in Medical-Surgical Nursing and Nursing Fundamentals for the fall of 2008. Point Loma Nazarene University is a non-profit, private Christian university with a baccalaureate (BSN) and Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) programs. The MSN program has an emphasis in nursing education and with four Clinical Nurse Specialist tracks (medical-surgical, gerontology, psych-mental health, and family health). Both programs are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), and are California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) approved. Nursing faculty have teaching responsibilities in both undergraduate and graduate nursing programs.
Qualifications:
- MSN in Medical-Surgical Nursing or Nursing Education (minimum requirement), significant progress toward doctorate in Nursing or related field highly recommended
- Clinical Nurse Specialist certification in medical-surgical nursing highly desirable
- Experience and qualifications for appointment at the assistant or associate professor rank
- Evidence of recent clinical practice in medical-surgical nursing
- Licensure as a RN in California or eligible for CA licensure
- Experience in teaching adult learners, curriculum development, program evaluation, and accreditation
- Personal commitment to Christ and to Christian higher education, scholarship, and service
- Strong organizational, leadership and interpersonal skills
- Experience in obtaining grant support and fund raising for programs is highly desirable
- Recent teaching experience
- Eligible for BRN approval in required clinical areas

Selection Process:
All applicants will be reviewed and evaluated by a search committee. From this pool of applicants, a limited number will be selected for an interview. The interview process will include:
- Dialogue with students and faculty in the School of Nursing
- Present a lecture to nursing students and faculty (limited to 15 minutes)
- Interview with the Dean of the College of Social Science and Professional Studies
- Interview with the Provost
- Interview with the President
The School of Nursing has 13 full-time faculty with approximately 150 declared undergraduate majors, and 80 pre-nursing (freshman) students. In addition, there are a growing number of students in the new Master of Science in Nursing program that has an emphasis in education, and four clinical nurse specialist tracks (advanced medical-surgical, family health, gerontology and psychiatric/mental health nursing).
