Organic Chemistry

The Department of Chemistry is seeking candidates for a full-time tenure-track teaching position. Responsibilities begin mid-August 2009. Academic rank will be based on degrees and experience.  The compensation level depends upon the education and experience of the appointee. The Department is seeking an Organic Chemist, capable of excellent teaching and committed to building and sustaining a vigorous undergraduate research program.

The Department of Chemistry offers B.S. degrees in Chemistry and Biology/Chemistry.  The department has five full-time faculty members, a strong commitment to quality teaching, and a forty-year tradition of undergraduate research.


Responsibilities:

  • Teach undergraduate courses that include courses in the candidate's area of expertise along with General Education and service courses
  • Supervise student research projects
  • Advise students
  • Participate in departmental activities and governance
  • Serve on faculty committees and perform other normal faculty duties

Qualifications:

  • Education: Ph.D. required.
  • Experience: Post doctoral work and undergraduate teaching experience desirable.  Evidence of professional activity in the discipline.  Evidence of a commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching and research.
  • Philosophical: Thorough commitment to the concept of Christian liberal arts education.  Desire to work in an evangelical institution in the Wesleyan tradition.  Supportive of the religious and educational goals of the university and its sponsoring denomination.
  • Personal: Evidence of Christian commitment and active church involvement.

Selection Process:

Applicants will be expected to submit a completed application, including a current CV and research plan. All applicants will be reviewed and evaluated by a search committee. From this pool of applicants, a limited number will be selected for an on-campus interview. The interview process will include:

  1. Dialogue with students and faculty in the Department of Chemistry
  2. Public presentation or lecture to department students and faculty
  3. Interview with the Vice Provost of the College of Arts & Sciences
  4. Interview with the Provost
  5. Interview with the President of the University
