P. STUDENT ADVISEMENT

The University maintains a comprehensive student advisement program which incorporates the following features:
  1. The plan recognizes that students have advising needs in a variety of categories: course selection, choice of a major, improvement of study skills, accommodations for learning disabilities, etc.
  2. A prime feature of the plan is the Academic Support Center. This is the point of initial contact for the student with any advisement need. The Center staff is prepared to either care for the needs or to refer.
  3. Academic advisement is done by faculty members in the department/school of the student's major. Individual assignments are made by the appropriate department chair/school dean. Undeclared majors are assigned to the Director of Academic Advising.
  4. The Vice President for Student Development coordinates planning for New Student Orientation and advisement of new students, both preceding and following their arrival on the main campus.
