U . INTERNET FILTER POLICY

Point Loma Nazarene University's Internet filter policy is framed around two key ideas:
  1. Unrestricted access to Internet resources is in keeping with the institution's stance regarding academic freedom and crucial for scholarship.
  2. The institution stands opposed to the use of its network for the access and/or dissemination of pornography by any member of the PLNU community.
The University desires both to support unrestricted Internet activity for scholarly inquiry and to deny access to pornographic sites and discourage the use of pornography on campus by students and employees. While it may be impossible to achieve completely both goals or to satisfy those who have a particularly strong interest in one of them, the Cabinet has determined that the Internet filter will be used as follows:

Residence Halls   Filtered
Campus Computer Labs   Filtered
Cabinet   Filtered
Administrators and Professional Staff*   Filtered
Departmental/school and Administrative Offices   Filtered
Library (Reference Room)   Unfiltered
Faculty   Scholarly Discretion
*Unfiltered only with Cabinet member approval
