B. COURSE SYLLABI
Faculty members prepare a syllabus for each course for distribution to students at the opening class session. Comprehensive syllabi (more than 20 pages) should be sold through the University Bookstore. Each department chair/school dean normally maintains a current file of all course syllabi.
The syllabus should include:
- A careful statement of the general and specific objectives of the course and its relationship to other University curricula;
- The appropriate statement regarding the course's place in the General Education Program;
- Information concerning textbooks, workbooks, software, and other essential course requirements;
- A schedule of assignments;
- A clear statement about examinations--the number, nature, type; the final examination, late examinations, and other pertinent information;
- The University policy concerning class attendance;
- The University policy concerning accommodations for students with learning disabilities (Socrates/Shared, Faculty Shared)
- Instructions concerning the use of learning resources;
- An outline of the main topics to be considered in the course; and
- Supplementary requirements such as reports or research papers.
