L. OFFICE SUPPORT SERVICES

The University attempts to provide an adequate level of office support for the faculty. For speed and efficiency, administrators and faculty are encouraged to answer their personal telephones.

Department/school offices normally serve faculty housed in the immediate area, sometimes involving individuals from different departments/schools. Office staff are supervised by a designated department chair/school dean. The Associate Vice President for Human Resources is responsible for the employment of office staff and the administration of programs relating to them.

Generally, a faculty member can expect to receive assistance for preparing class materials (syllabi, tests, bibliographies), committee work (minutes, agenda, reports), and correspondence directly related to the work of the University. During peak periods of the year, the office workload often becomes excessive. Faculty are urged to assist through such obvious means as preparing teaching materials well ahead of the date needed.

Office personnel are not expected to perform duties relating to personal matters, such as correspondence, and/or preparation of manuscripts. However, the supervisor may request such assistance for scholarly efforts such as manuscript preparation, if the workload permits and no direct University-related projects are thereby neglected.

The Staff Handbook is the official basic guide for the office personnel of the University.
