G. WHO'S WHO SELECTION POLICY

The criteria used in choosing candidates to the publication Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities include the following: academic excellence, promise of future usefulness, citizenship, contribution to University and community, and spiritual vitality. Only undergraduates are eligible.

The Record's Office prepares a list of all students who could graduate in May of the following year who have achieved at least a 3.200 cumulative GPA. Those who have been selected for Who's Who in a previous year are eliminated from this list.

If the list is approximately 50 persons, this becomes the final ballot from which to choose the candidates to be sent to the publication. If there are more than about 50, a preliminary selection is made to reduce the list to approximately 50. The same committee makes this initial cut. Copies of the list are given to the committee prior to the meeting.

All students on the final list (as indicated above) are sent an information sheet. This sheet must be completed to be considered for the final selection. There must be reasonable assurance that each person involved has received a copy of the information sheet. These information sheets, when completed, are duplicated and distributed to the Selection Committee prior to the final meeting.

The Selection Committee includes the following:
  1. The Vice President for Student Development (Chair);  Director of Academic Advising; Director of Community Life; Associate Dean/Residential Life; Director of the Wellness Center.
  2. One faculty member from each undergraduate department/school (approximately 17).
  3. All Resident Directors.
  4. Two members of the ASB Board of Directors; two representatives from the Sophomore class and two representatives from the Junior class--selected by the ASB Board of Directors.
  5. Two members of the Senior Class Council--selected by the Senior Class Council.
  6. Seven other upper-division students selected by the Director of Community Life.
The committee selects the final candidates by a voting process. To be elected, a candidate must receive a majority vote of the committee present. The total number elected must not exceed one percent of the total student body (fall semester enrollment).

No information shall be given out by the committee members until the official notices are sent to the students who are selected.
