Bob Brower was elected the 14th President of Point Loma Nazarene University during a meeting of the Board of Trustees on October 31, 1997. He assumed office on January 1, 1998. At the time of his election, Dr. Brower was president of Nazarene Publishing House in Kansas City, Missouri. Before his position in Kansas City, Dr. Brower was vice president for Institutional Advancement at MidAmerica Nazarene University in Olathe, Kansas, from 1989-1995 and was responsible for financial development efforts, church and public relations, special events, and publications. He was dean of Innovative Education and Graduate Studies as well as professor from 1986-1989. While in that position, he developed programs in management and human relations, and masters degrees in education and business administration. He was also associate academic dean from 1983-1986, director of Title III programs, and professor of communications from 1979-1983. He was previously director of Title III, director of admissions, and taught as assistant professor at Trevecca Nazarene University from 1974-1979. He earned the Ph.D. in organizational and interpersonal communication at the University of Kansas in 1986, the M.A. in communication from the University of Cincinnati in 1973, and the B.A. in Speech and English from Trevecca in 1972. Dr. Brower and his wife, Linda, reside in Point Loma and are the parents of a son, Jeff, and a daughter, Julie. Dr. and Mrs. Brower are proud grandparents to five grandchildren.
