Athletic Training

Department of Kinesiology

Kinesiology is the study of human movement, especially in how it relates to health, athletic ability, fitness, and overall well being. Whether you are interested in athletic training, physical education, or exercise science, studying kinesiology can help you prepare for a career that focuses on helping people improve their health. Whether you work with athletes or students, in a lab or on the field, you will work to understand how the body interacts with and reacts to movement.

Overview

At Point Loma, the Department of Kinesiology offers three majors: athletic training, exercise science, and physical education.

The athletic training program at Point Loma is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs. A testament to the major’s quality, the program has competitive admission. Upon completion of the baccalaureate degree in athletic training, students are eligible to apply for and take the NATA-BOC certification examination. When the student athletic trainer passes the national examination, he/she becomes a certified athletic trainer.
