People are often talking about how we live in a global society. From multinational corporations to outsourcing, technology to communications, issues related to international business have been frequent news items and topics for debates in recent years. Understanding multiple cultures and issues involved in international business have become increasingly desirable skills in the job market. If you are interested in travel, culture, and learning a second language, international business major be the ideal area of study for you. You will need to have good communication and math skills and a passion for creative thinking.


Overview


PLNU’s Fermanian School of Business offers two majors that may interest you if you desire to pursue a career in international business. The first is the major in business administration with a concentration in international business. If you select this major, you will take classes in international business communication, theories of economic development, and public finance in addition to marketing, management, and statistics. You will also spend a semester studying abroad and learn a foreign language.


Another option is the major in international development studies. Here you will learn about economic development theories and models, development planning, development programming, grassroots development projects, democratization, gender issues in development, urban problems, and other factors that affect the development process.


Both of these Point Loma majors offer you the opportunity to combine business education with international study. Whichever you choose, you will be prepared for a variety of careers in international business.

Career Opportunities:


You will have many career paths open to you with a degree in business administration or international development studies. You may choose to pursue a career in marketing, public relations, management consulting, or financial services. You may find yourself working as an executive, director, entrepreneur, analyst, teacher, reporter, advocate or lawyer. Many graduates of the Fermanian School of Business also choose to go on to earn an advanced degree such as an M.B.A. or Ph.D.
