Department of Communication and Theatre

Onstage performance is something that comes naturally to some people. Whether it’s acting, singing, dancing, or something else, those that crave and often thrive in the spotlight have numerous opportunities to achieve success. Theatre is about more than what’s onstage, however. The technical side of a production – including lighting, sound, acoustics, costume and set design – is just as important. No matter what side of the curtain you’re on, PLNU’s Department of Communication and Theatre is for you.

Overview

PLNU offers a theatre major in its Department of Communication and Theatre. After learning general communication styles, students take courses in theatre, voice and diction, and acting. The upper division requirements include learning about the history of the theatre, stagecraft, lighting and makeup techniques, movement, and directing. In addition, it is recommended that majors take literature courses dealing with great dramas. A theatre practicum and internship are also required.
