General Education Administration

The administration and faculty of Point Loma Nazarene University maintain a strong commitment to general education as one of the most important ways in which Point Loma Nazarene University provides its students with a liberal education. The basic thinking skills and the essential spiritual, cultural, and artistic literacy that form general education’s traditional content at PLNU continue to be areas of faculty concern and focus. All general education courses are subjected to ongoing scrutiny by their departments and whenever possible, full-time professors teach these courses. In addition, a newly appointed Dean of General Education and a faculty-elected General Education Committee usually oversee the general education program in its entirety, its quality, its internal coherence, and its relation to majors.

Since Point Loma Nazarene University needs to re-examine its general education requirement for currency as well as for coherence and quality, the Provost has expanded the current General Education Committee and created a General Education Task Force that will remain active until it has accomplished a thorough review of general education. At that time the Task Force will disband and the responsibility of general education oversight will return to the General Education Committee.
