Dean of General Education
In 2004 the Provost of Point Loma Nazarene University created a new position, Dean of General Education, in order to enable ongoing oversight and evaluation of a program that currently constitutes almost half of every student’s coursework at PLNU.  Dr. Hadley Wood serves as the Dean of General Education. 

General Education Committee 
The General Education Committee is comprised of the following members:

General Education Task Force
In April 2004, when the Provost established a Dean of General Education the General Education Committee was expanded in order to create a Task Force whose mission was to decide upon a revision of general education, if one was deemed warranted. The individuals added to the committee were as follows:

• Caye Smith—Associate Vice President for Student Development
• Hadley Wood—Dean of General
• Bill Wood--History and Political Scinece

Faculty Participation in process
Since general education only works well when there is broad-based faculty engagement in and ownership of general education, the General Education Task Force tries to engage faculty as much as possible in the work of the task force. To that end, the Task Force has created, on the PLNU faculty e-class page, a special site that relates to general education. On this site faculty will find a list of the future meetings of the Task Force, minutes from past meetings (beginning with Fall 2004), a summary of carried motions, pertinent documents under consideration by the task force or passed by them, a small selection of suggested readings on general education, and a place where comments can be sent to the task force members.
