DIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIPS
2002-Present
In 2002 PLNU established two diversity scholarships: The Diversity Leadership Scholarship and The Diversity Need Scholarship.
THE DIVERSITY LEADERSHIP SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship is awarded to freshman and transfer students for $4,000.00. There is no separate application. It is both a merit & need based scholarship. Students are identified as being students of color by the Application and sent information about the scholarship. A committee including Admissions, faculty, Student Development and a PLNU student, reviews the application and makes decision based on Institution Fit, leadership ability and experience, academics, and financial need.
The student is required to hold a position of leadership on campus. That could range from being a club or ministry leader, RA, student government, or other areas. The scope is pretty broad. Students will generally shadow someone their first year then take on responsibilities the following year.
The student is required to meet regularly with Student Development to continue to develop leadership skills.
Priority will be given to underrepresented populations such as African –American and Latino students. Nazarene students will also be given priority. The scholarship is renewable every year.
THE DIVERSITY NEED SCHOLARSHIP
This Scholarship of $3,000.00 is awarded to incoming students from under-represented groups such as Latino and African American, Native American and certain Asian populations. This scholarship is need based on the FAFSA information and EFC. There is no separate application. Students are identified as being students of color by the Application and sent information about the scholarship. A committee from admissions will be responsible for awarding this scholarship.
Priority is given to students who are the first in their family to attend college. Nazarene students will also be given priority. The scholarship is renewable every year.
