Urban Ministries Opportunities

Kids at Heart Tutoring in Downtown and in Mid-City of San Diego provides tutoring for children at a Presbyterian Church downtown or in City Heights at the Church of the Nazarene.  Tutors also build relationships with families.

Southeast Children Ministry participates with Southeast Church of the Nazarene in their Friday night meal, providing fellowship with homeless individuals and low-income families.  Volunteers share the love of God by teaching Bible stories, activities and songs to the children after dinner

Mexico Children Outreach supports children’s ministries, orphanages, and churches in Northern Baja through visiting them and providing activities.  This ministry seeks to build relationships across the border

YWCA provides childcare for Cortez Hill Family Shelter members and builds bridges between PLNU students and community

Healer's Hands Children Ministry provides students with opportunities to serve in the community through medical outreach to children, both in San Diego and Mexico

Carpenter’s Crew works with churches and other groups in Mexico and California
in construction work

Elderly Outreach builds relationships with residents of the Duke Royale Retirement home based on fellowship, prayer, kindness, and love

Prison Ministry travels to Donovan Correctional facility to participate in Sunday morning worship services.  Volunteers also support the inmates through sharing with them in friendship

Bread of Life Homeless Ministry supports the Salvation Army and the Church of the Nazarene in Mid-City as they provide meals for homeless and low income people in downtown San Diego and Ocean Beach.
