Academic Affairs Planning Goal #4
2004-2006
1. What is a visionary goal that your unit set?
To begin preparation for the first stage of the two-stage WASC accreditation reaffirmation process.
2. What information and data did you use to set this goal?
- The first WASC visit will happen in October of 2006 and a great deal of preparation for this visit is needed.
- Roughly 70% of the full time faculty is working on at least one WASC team (either CPR or EER) and thus the work on the WASC process is a major focus of our academic community.
- The proposal was written in a way that allows the process to examine key issues of concern to our community and is structured so that each team will make specific recommendations to help the University improve. This work will feed directly into our revitalized strategic planning process and will be carried forward.
3. What actions did you take to try to reach this goal?
- The University data tables were constructed.
- A large scale survey of faculty, staff, students and alumni was conducted.
- The seven CPR teams conducted their work.
- The six EER teams began their work.
- An academic plan was drafted and a process created for vetting it with the faculty.
4. What progress did you make?
- The first round of the university data tables was completed and they are currently being updated and expanded as new information becomes available.
- The data gathered for the tables and the surveys was sorted and given to CPR and EER teams to support their work.
- The fall of 2005 has been devoted to reviewing and fine-tuning the CPR reports in preparation for writing the WASC CPR document in the spring of 2006. The review of the CPR reports and the associated editing will be completed by February 1, 2006.
- The EER teams have begun their work and their preliminary findings are due March 1, 2006.
- The academic plan is roughly half-way through the vetting process. The process will be completed by March 1, 2006.
5. What information and data did you use to evaluate your progress?
- The data tables exist
- The WASC CPR reports are being completed
- There are many excellent practical recommendations coming from the WASC teams and the academic planning process that will help us improve as a university and further our mission. Solid evidence of the use of these recommendations will not be available for at least a year but currently consideration is being given to implementing several of them immediately.
