INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGY SUPPORT SPECIALIST
JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Instructional Technology Support Specialist
Job Status: Full-time, non-exempt
Reports To: Site Director & Director of Academic Computing
Purpose: Provide technology support for the School of Education and Master’s Programs at PLNU Graduate Sites. The technology support specialist position will be a generalist who is able to support all areas of technology at an intermediate level with a focus on those areas of technology related to teaching and learning.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support faculty using instructional technology including the campus on-line course management system (Blackboard).
  • Work closely with Academic Computing to be able to make recommendations to faculty on methods of using technology to enhance teaching and learning
  • Provide support to the faculty in their efforts to learn new technology and incorporate it into the teaching and learning process
  • Promote information technology literacy and competencies to faculty and staff
  • Ensure proper functioning of the computer lab and Classroom Technology
  • Provide software application support to faculty and students using the computer lab
  • Provide support and training for multimedia applications and equipment
  • Provide assistance to faculty and students using online Library resources and Inter-library loan
  • Troubleshoot technology problems for faculty and staff
  • Perform some hardware repairs and facilitate repair of equipment under warranty
  • Interface with Information Technology Services, Media Services and the Library at Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego in order to expedite support when additional assistance from these departments is required
  • Support users with Windows and Mac platforms
  • Train others in effective use of computer resources
  • Interface with software and hardware vendors as required
  • Coordinate special projects as assigned by the Director of Academic Computing
  • Perform other related duties as requested by the CIO, Director of Academic Computing or Site Directors

 

Employment Standards:

  • Applicant should have A+ certification plus a minimum one year of technology support experience.
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or Instructional Technology or equivalent experience in instructional design, distance education, or teaching/training in higher education or equivalent combination will be given special consideration.
  • Experience supporting Microsoft Windows 2K/XP and Mac operating systems.
  • Applicant must be proficient with a wide variety of software including MS Office.
  • Experience with multimedia development highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with web-based course management systems such as Blackboard is a plus.
  • Applicant must possess excellent communication skills.
  • Applicant must have the ability to work independently with a desire to provide excellent customer service to the campus community. 
  • Applicant must have the ability to exercise important human relations skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
  • Extensive travel between the various PLNU sites is required. A vehicle will be provided for this purpose.
