Job Title: Instructional Technologist
Job Status: Full-time, exempt
Reports To: Director of Academic Computing
Purpose: Make recommendations to faculty on methods of using technology to enhance teaching and learning. Promote information technology literacy and competencies. Develop a student technology assistant program. Assist faculty with the selection and acquisition of software and hardware.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and support to the faculty in their efforts to learn new technology and incorporate it into the teaching and learning process. The emphasis for this is on using technology that is pedagogically appropriate, enhances learning, and is not just “technology for technology’s sake.”
  • Assist faculty with the instructional design process from needs analysis and development of instructional objectives to the final evaluation of the resulting implementation.
  • Keep abreast of emerging technologies that have potential for teaching, learning, and research; monitor trends and developments in educational technology.
  • Develop and conduct workshops for the faculty.
  • Support faculty using instructional technology including Blackboard.
  • Promote information technology literacy and competencies for students and faculty.
  • Develop and coordinate a student technology assistant program.
  • Coordinate the acquisition of new hardware and software for faculty.
Other Duties
  • Assist the Chief Information Officer and Director of Academic Computing with special projects (e.g., gathering, compiling, and analyzing information) and assist with various Academic Computing initiatives.
  • Perform other related jobs as requested.
Employment Standards
  • Graduate degree in Instructional Technology or a closely related field and at least three years of experience working in areas relating to instructional design, distance education, or teaching/training in higher education or equivalent combination.
  • Experience in a variety of operating systems including Windows, MacOS and Unix. Should be familiar with web-based course management systems such as Blackboard. Proficient with a wide variety of software including MS Office. Experience with multimedia development and Web programming (Java, CGI, etc).
  • Demonstrated experience in writing and receiving grants a plus.
  • Applicant must possess excellent communication skills.
