- Approval of minutes from 9/3/2004 – Approved
- Report on MBA from Bruce (attached). Questions arose as to ethics, spirituality, causes of increase in applications for Cohort 4, multiple sites for MBA program, finishing the thesis, and the development of a Masters in Organizational Leadership.
- Report on MSN program from Barbara Taylor. Question arose as to the following conundrum: 60% of nurses educated in CA have only AA degree, so they are not eligible for the MSN program. So could PLNU provide an AA to MSN possibility? Barbara pointed out that to do this we could probably not go through a BA because of the heavy GenEd load which makes PLNU an unattractive program because the nurses only need 3 Nursing courses but would be here 1.5 years with GenEd. So the AA to MSN track would have to be thought of in a different way.
- Darrel: Should these reports of graduate programs be made available to the full faculty? Possibilities: Posted, mailed, and/or time at faculty meeting. Pat suggested that maybe the schools that have grad programs should report at the faculty meeting as to the linkages between undergrad & grad programs. Bruce suggested that there should be a report from the GSC as to the impact of grad programs, e.g. social impact (“send”), financial impact, and impact on undergraduate program. Darrel agreed to speak to Patrick about each school having time at faculty meeting to do a short report on the impact of the graduate programs.
- Policy regarding posthumous degrees (brought by administration) – Need to include a policy for graduate degrees as well as undergraduate degrees. Jo suggested that the minimum of 20 units be changed to a minimum of one year because of the way cohorts work; after a year someone may have only completed 12 units of work. Each graduate program is different, so the amount of units completed in one year would vary by program. Because this degree is really for the bereaved families, Pat moved that we remove the requirement for a minimum of 20 units and instead add a requirement to have the recommendation of the GSC. Motion was approved.
- Voting membership of the GSC – Should we propose that there be a permanent member from Arcadia and/or Bakersfield? Maggie will bring that proposal to GSC, and thence to the nominating committee, and thence to the faculty to vote on.
