School of Education - Service Credentials


The Pupil Personnel Service Credential – specializing in school counseling - prepares you to work as a school counselor in K-12 public schools, providing comprehensive guidance and counseling services to students. The Preliminary Administrative Service Credential prepares you for entry-level and upper administrative position in your district. The Clear Administrative Service credential is issued to an administrator with over two years experience.

Admissions Requirements for Service Credentials Program:


Step 1:

Please complete and submit all general graduate application materials. These materials can be found on the Application Process page, where you will also find the address to which you should send these materials.

Step 2:

Application Checklist:

  1. Official Transcripts - Transcripts must be sent from each accredited institution attended. One of which must indicate the completion of a Baccalaureate or higher degree from a regionally accredited institution.  A cumulative undergraduate grade point average of 3.00 is required to be admitted into the graduate program. (Students who do not meet this standard - see "Exceptions Policy" below).

  2. Two Letters of Recommendation - As stated on the Application Process page, through the online application, you will submit names and email addresses of your recommenders and they will be sent a link to complete an electronic recommendation. 
    If you decide to apply by downloading our paper application, please download and print the School of Education Letter of Recommendation Form and have them send the completed recommendation to the address found on the Application Process page. Recommendations should be completed by individuals who have knowledge of your character and professional performance.

  3. Interview - Upon receipt of all your required documents, an interview will be scheduled with the program coordinator for the appropriate program.

    Exceptions Policy:

    Applicants who do not meet the above standards but can demonstrate that they have an exceptionally rich experiential background and/or have demonstrated dramatic change in academic performance, may petition the department to review their status. The School of Education will follow the exceptions policy as published in the current catalog.

Step 3:

Other Program Requirements Upon Acceptance:
(Items below are due shortly after beginning the program. Talk with your Program Coordinator for specific deadlines).


  1. CBEST passing score report.

  2. CTC Certificate of Clearance or other CTC credential (Fingerprints).
  3. Evidence of prerequisite credential (excluding PPS credential program).
Note: The following are additional requirements for candidates pursuing an M.A. or Ed.S. degree in conjunction with a service credential:

  1. A writing sample responding to the following questions (each answer should be one-half page):

    • Describe your professional career goals.

    • Describe the experience that helped you determine these goals. You may want to include multi-cultural and professional experiences.

    • Explain why you are applying to a Christian graduate program.

  2. GRE or MAT scores (waived if candidate already has advanced degree from a regionally accredited college or university).
