School of Theology & Christian Ministry - Master of Arts in Religion


The Master of Arts degree in Religion is an academic degree building on an appropriate undergraduate foundation with study on a more advanced level. The degree may lead directly into ministry, be applied to a seminary degree, or prepare one for further graduate study in religion. Two concentrations are available: Theology and Biblical Studies.

Admissions Requirements for MA Religion Program:


Step 1:

Please complete and submit all general graduate application materials. These materials can be found on the Application Process page, where you will also find the address to which you should send these materials.

Note Regarding Application Fee: The $40.00 application fee is waived for MA Religion program and you do not have to pay it.

Note Regarding Transcripts: Your official transcripts should indicate an undergraduate upper-division GPA of 3.0 or better.

Step 2:

Application Checklist and Program Eligibility:

  1. Please provide 2 confidential letters of recommendation. Please provide your references with the Graduate Religion Letter of Recommendation Form and have them send the completed recommendation directly to the address found on the Application Process page.

    • One letter should be from a professor under whom you have studied

    • The other letter should be from someone who has knowledge of your character, such as a minister or employer

  2. Please provide a sample essay that demonstrates graduate-level writing ability.

  3. Submit your scores from the Graduate Records Exam (GRE). Minimum raw scores for program eligibility are: 400 verbal and 400 quantitative. You may substitute GRE scores by submitting your Miller Analogies Test with a score of 35.

  4. Only after all materials are submitted, please schedule an interview with the Program Director Brad Kelle - BradKelle@pointloma.edu
