Karen J. Sangren

Karen J. Sangren, Ph. D.,  completed her doctoral degree in art education from the University of Oregon, after master's studies in fine art at SDSU.  She has taught art education, art appreciation, design theory, and studio courses during her career at Point Loma Nazarene University. 

Sangren has chaired the PLNU Department of Art and Design, served with the Professional Development Art cadre for the San Diego City Schools, created arts partnerships between PLNU, local museums and area schools, and has conducted curriculum workshops on the use of the California Visual Arts Standards.  She has been a long-term member of the Art Advisory Panel for the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing in Sacramento, CA.  This panel wrote the State art standards for art teacher preparation programs, as well as designed assessment and scoring strategies for the California art CSET exam.  Sangren is currently working wtih the national organization CIVA (Christians in the Visual Arts) to direct a national study of art and design programs in faith-based schools in higher education.

Sangren participated in a two-person ceramics exhibition in Fall 2006 in the PLNU Keller Gallery, where 29 of her thematic hand-built bowls were displayed.
She coordinates the PLNU arts education program and is an avid international traveler.
