Sea Lions Walk Off With Win Against Spain

San Diego, CA (2/26) - Point Loma Nazarene downed the Spanish National team in a
4-3 ninth inning come-from-behind exhibition win at Carroll B. Land Stadium Tuesday
afternoon. The Sea Lions entered the bottom of the ninth trailing 3-2 but scored twice for the walk-off win.
Kurt Steinhauer got things going for PLNU in the third. After a single from Chris Huston, Steinhauer rifled a two-run homer, putting
the Sea Lions up 2-0.
The Spanish National team, using wood bats while PLNU used metal, responded in the fourth, with a RBI single from Jose Riera and a sac fly from Lesther Galvan. Another
run in the sixth put the Spaniards in the lead 3-2.
Ian MacMaster walked and Nick Fox reached on a error to start off the bottom of the ninth. First baseman Jon Tierney singled home MacMaster to tie the game and then, with the bases loaded, outfielder Mike Miles came through with an RBI single to end the game.
Point Loma relief pitcher Kevin Craik, who tossed a hitless
ninth inning, was awarded the win. Starter Kenny Houser gave up three hits and two
runs in five innings. Jayson Swen allowed two hits and a run in two innings and
Jake Hovis pitched a perfect eighth.
Manuel Olivera started for the Spanish National team,
allowing four hits and two runs, but it was ninth inning pitcher Fernando Gutierrez who was hung with the loss. Gutierrez surrendered two hits and two
runs.
The Sea Lions (11-5, 6-2 GSAC) take on their cross-town
rivals the Hawks (6-6, 2-6 GSAC) tomorrow at America’s Most Scenic Ball Park at
2 p.m.
