San Diego, CA (4/25) - The two-day, 44 event 2009 Golden State Athletic Conference championship meet, hosted by Point Loma Nazarene University, is complete. Winning both team titles was Azusa Pacific University. The Cougar men easily outpointed second place Fresno Pacific 271 to 198.50. Hosts Point Loma placed third followed by Concordia (64), Vanguard (61), Westmont (59) and Biola (36).

APU's women narrowly defeated Point Loma Nazarene 190.50 to 184, snapping the Sea Lion's two-year conference win streak. Fresno Pacific (152.50) was third with Concordia (112.50), Biola (103.50), Westmont (81.50) and Vanguard (28.50).

The exceeded expectations as on hundred marks or times met or beat automatic qualifying standards for nationals by the elite of the GSAC.

Conference records were shattered over Friday and Saturday's events including the women's 3000 steeplechase (Aybuke Keehn, CUI, 10:58.8h), the women's 10,000 meter run (Lisa Griego, Wesmont, 36:37.07), the women's heptathlon (Amanda Straw, Fresno Pacific, 4448 points), the 100 meter hurdles (Lorin Milotta (Westmont and Natasha Miller, Biola: 13.8h--unfortunately those aren't official records due to only having hand times), the 4x100 meter relay (Jordan Turner, Kelsey Sutherland, Rebecca Gustafson, Sarah Laine, PLNU: 47.25) and the 800 meter run by Jaime Canterbury (APU, 2:10.27).

For APU's Aaron Rono set a new GSAC standard in the 10,000 meter run when he crossed the finish line in just 29:18.02.

Sea Lion men earning automatic berths to the NAIA National Championships were pole vaulter Lane Votapka (16-00.75, 2nd place, new PR), Landon Bright in the 10,000 meters (31:38.88, 2nd), Corey Botma in the 400 meter dash (48.27, 3rd place) and depending on if he made the top-16 in the country, Jeff Hester in the decathlon (6038 points).

The PLNU women who punched their ticket to nationals was Drew Kreager in the javelin (134-07, 2nd), Sarah Laine in the 200 meter dash (24.53, 3rd), the 400 meter dash (1st, 56.58),  Katie Kunz in the 10,000 meter run (38:16.50, 6th), Megan Moyer in the 800 meter run (2:13.55) and the 1500 meter run (4:42.8h), Rebecca Gustafson in the 100 meter hurdles (14.7h, 4th) and the 400 meter hurdles (1:02.28, 2nd), Victoria Anderson in the 400 meter hurdles (1:03.33), the 4x100 team of Turner, Kelsey Sutherland, Gustafson and Laine and the 4x400 relay team of Anderson, Turner, Sutherland and Laine.

Point Loma tallied six conference championships: Laine in the 400 meter dash, the women's 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams, James Grandi in the discus (141-06) and the hammer (150-04) and Hester in the decathlon.
