Track Teams Compete at Divisional Challenge

PicturesLa Jolla, CA (4/5) - Point Loma Nazarene's track and field teams performed well at the Divisional Challenge hosted by UC San Diego on Saturday. The Sea Lion women placed second to hosts UCSD while the PLNU men were third behind UCSD and Claremont.
Both sides sported four teams, local four-year universities Point Loma Nazarene and UC San Diego, local JC, Cuyamaca and NCAA DIII Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, which hails from Los Angeles.
On the men's side for PLNU, Corey Botma won the 400 meter run with a time of 49.05. Landon Bright easily outpaced the competition in the 1500 meter run. His time of 4:01.20 was eight second better than the next finisher. Bright also won the 3000 meter run in 8:50.18.
Nick Falcioni completed the 400 meter hurdles in a 54.24, good for first. Lane Votapka's pole vault of 16-0 was the best of the day as well and a personal best.
The PLNU ladies won just one event, Drew Kreager in the javelin throw, but the Sea Lions were consistently near the top in most events including second place in the 4x100 and 4x200 meter relays, Sable Otey in the 100 meter dash, Sarah Laine in the 200 meter dash, Julie-Anne Bailey in the 1,500 meter run and Christina Metzler in the 400 meter hurdles.
The Sea Lions' time of 47.66 in the 4x100 relay is a new university record.
PLNU travels to Westwood next weekend to take part in UCLA's Johnson-Kersee Invitational.
