Sea Lion Slump Continues Against Concordia
San Diego,
Calif. (4/15) -- Hopes for nationals look grim for the Sea Lions, after they were bested by Concordia 5-4 in a non-conference match on
Tuesday. NAIA No. 13 Point Loma finishes the regular season on a six-game skid and is now 8-14 overall. The Eagles improved to 9-7.
The Sea Lions played out their singles points first, winning two and
losing four. They needed to sweep all three doubles points for the team
win but fell one short.
Freshman Kristin Strimple won court one twice on the day,
fighting for an 8-6 victory with partner Kelsey Weir in doubles and winning
singles in two sets. She won the first set nearly unopposed, 6-0, but was
forced into a tie-breaker in the second, which she won 7-6.
Leanne Piper and Brittany Hall won doubles on court two in a
close 8-6 match. Piper went on to win in singles on court four, in a
come-from-behind three-set match.
In singles, Weir won her first set only to lose the second.
Concordia’s Jessica Rice eventually won the struggle in a tie breaker.
PLNU, eighth in the GSAC, played its final home match of the season. The team competes at next week's Ojai tournament.
