Cheryl Schaefer Named Interim Head Coach

8/10 - Point Loma Nazarene University Athletic Director Ethan Hamilton announced the hiring of Cheryl Schaefer as the softball program’s interim head coach on Monday. Schaefer, a former PLNU player and a member of the coaching staff for six seasons, becomes the eighth head coach in the softball program’s history. Read More>>

Williams Tours Italy with Local Players

6/11 - PLNU coach Dave Williams took a team to Italy to compete against local teams. His squad played in 12 different towns in nine days. Williams wrote a blog about the experience. Read More

Gomez and Lent Named as All-Americans

5/20 - Melissa Gomez (1st team) and Tyler Lent (2nd team) were selected as 2009 NAIA All-Americans on Wednesday. Both were also named to the national championship all-tournament team. complete AA list | AT team

PLNU's NAIA Hopes Thrown Out

5/18 - The Sea Lions had a chance. Trailing Oklahoma City 1-0 and with one out in the top of the seventh, Point Loma Nazarene pitcher Tyler Lent singled through the left side of the infield. Melissa Gomez, who doubled to open the frame, raced around third but was thrown out on a close play at the plate for the second out of the inning. The next batter flew out to end the game and PLNU's run at the NAIA National Championships.  Read More

Sea Lions Don't Get it Done, Slip Into Loser's Bracket

5/18 - Oh so close. The Sea Lions out hit California Baptist but failed to get the big hit in a 2-1 loss Monday at the NAIA National Championships. The setback was the first at the tournament for No. 4-ranked Point Loma Nazarene (48-12) which drops into the loser's bracket of the double-elimination tournament and will face Oklahoma City at 6:00 pm Monday. 5/18 - Second baseman Kayla Luttmers drove in four runs and pitcher Tyler Lent plated three as NAIA No. 4-ranked Point Loma Nazarene defeated Notre Dame (OH) 11-3 in the team's opening championship bracket game of the NAIA National Championship Tournament Monday. Read More

5/17 - Third baseman Jill Schaefer hit a three-run homerun and drove in five as Point Loma Nazarene defeated Madonna (MI) 8-1 Sunday afternoon in the third game of NAIA national championship pool play. Read More

Softball NAIA National Pool Play Brackets Out

5/7 - The 2009 Softball National Championship Brackets  were released. The Sea Lions are headed back to Decatur, AL and are atop a pool that also has Madonna, McKendree and Holy Names. Pool play starts on Thursday, May 14.  Bracket, Information and Times

4/29 - Things are looking up for the Sea Lions. Tyler Lent hammered a first inning grand slam in PLNU's 7-1 win over Concordia on Wednesday to close out the best 2-of-3 GSAC Tournament series in two. PLNU advances to California Baptist to take on the Lancers in a best 2-of-3 GSAC Championship Series starting at noon Thursday. Read More

Four Sea Lions Earn All-GSAC Honors

4/27 - Four PLNU softball players were selected to the 2009 All-GSAC team: Melissa Gomez, Jenel Guadagno, Tyler Lent and Alex Wilkinson. Those four helped lead the Sea Lions to a 41-9 regular season record. Complete List

Sea Lions Repay the Doherty's Hospitality

April 16-- Every year since 2001, the Point Loma Nazarene softball team has been making the trip Decatur, Alabama, site of the NAIA National Championships. Over the last four years, Bob and Linda Doherty have served as official hosts to the Sea Lions as they compete at nationals. PLNU repaid some of the couple's hospitality recently. Read More
