Great Escapes Trips



The following is the tentative Spring 2008 Scedule. Changes may be made at anytime.
All trip registrations take place in the Nicholson Commons Recreation Room, located on the bottom floor.

January


12th

Mt. Fortuna Day Hike & Dinner                                            $5
Twenty minutes from campus is Mission Gorge Regional Park. The hike ascends to great views of the park, its ravines, and distance views of downtown San Deigo and even the Pacific ocean. 

18-21st     New Guide Backpacking                                                    $30
Hiking along the historic Pacific Crest Trail you will learn navigation, group leadership, backpacking, camping, and cooking skills. This is open to any student interested in building new friendships and developing as an outdoor enthusiast. No Experience necessary.

25-27th

AG Rock Training Joshua Tree NP**                                  $40
Set in the world renowned J-Tree National Park, you will learn about climbing techinques will adding skills like belaying, rappelling, and equipment use. No prior experience required. All gear, food, transportation included.

February

 

2-3rd,
9-10th   

WFR Bridge Course                                                            $300
Hosted at PLNU and isntructed by Wildnerness Medical Associates, this course is the advanced training from the WAFA. Pre-registration and pre-course packet are required. Contact Nate Bondi for more info.

9th Assistant Guide Aquatic Training                                        $15
Along the asthetic beach of La Jolla you will learn to handle various kayaks, body boards, and surf boards. Also, we will cover water conditions and unseen hazards. No experience necessary.

15-18th        

Mammoth Winter Weekend**                                                  $100
President's Day Weekend is a great time to get away to the Eastern Sierra Nevada moutnains for some time in the snow. Participants will have the option to ski or snowboard at Mammoth/June Mountain at least one day (tickets and rentals not included). Cost includes food, transportation, lodging, and instructors.

Wilderness Advanced First Aid                                            $300
WMA Certification Available
One of the best 2-weekend trainings that we offer. This medical and energency training will help prepare you for unexpected challenges whether out with friends or leading a trip for Great Escapes. Contact Nate Bondi for info nbondi@pointloma.edu

Mission Gorge Rock Climbing                                                $15
Come hang out at the local crag, 20 minutes from campus. You will climb the 60-80ft. granite walls of Mission Gorge while expanding friendships and learning rock climbing techniques.  

March


1-8th    

Havasu Spring Break Backpacking**                                      $250
Prepare yourself for one of the most gorgeous places in the USA. We will be backpacking into the Havasupai Indian Reservation which has amazing canyons, world premier waterfalls, and is the souther doorway to the Colorado River and the Grand Canyon. Spaces are limited. No experience necessary

14-16th

Senior Guide Rock Training Joshua Tree NP**                      $40          
This advanced training is open to anyone who has taken the AG Rock Training. We will be learning and practicing rappelling and anchor set-ups. All gear will be provided. Participants must arrange transportation and food on their own. Campsites will be reserved.

12th La Jolla Surf Kayaking and Beach Party                                $15
Come join us for a wonderful day of playing in the sun and surf. All equipment and lunch are included.
18-20th Joshua Tree Rock Climbing**                                                  $50
This is our standard come and climb rock climbing trip. No experience necessary to enjoy the granite rocks and high desert landscape. All food, gear, transportation, and instruction include.
26th Anza Borrego Mud Caving                                                     $15
These ancient mud structures have left behind some unique horizontal caves. Come prepared to walk, crawl, and meaneder through some dark and dirty places! A definite "must do" for all outdoor enthusiasts!
