  • Begin to explore academic, social and co-curricular options and opportunities at PLNU.
  • Start thinking about your skills, interests and values. Write them down so you can refer back to them throughout college.
  • If you are unsure of your skills, interests or values, make an appointment to talk to Charlie Howard in Career Services.
  • Learn where Career Services is on campus and visit the office so you are familiar with the resources offered. Attend an Open House held at the beginning of each semester.
  • Browse the Career Services website.
  • Explore your interests by choosing a wide variety of academic courses.
  • Consider taking assessment tests in Career Services to help you to decide on a major or explore the choice you have already made.
  • Join the Career Services email list to learn about general interest programs from Career Services including career fairs, corporate information sessions, etiquette dinner sign-ups, important job search information, and workshops on a variety of topics.
  • Attend the Overview of Career Services presentations held at your residence hall.
  • Attend a workshop to learn how to write a resume.
  • Visit Career Services to have your resume critiqued.
  • Attend one of the Career Fairs held on campus and the Mission Valley campus (Graduate School Fair; Seminary and Religious Studies Fair; Nursing Job Fair; Summer Camp Job Fair; Career Job Fair; Teacher Education Job Fair).
  • Develop and test your skills and interests by working with campus clubs or organizations. If you are interested in journalism, for example, write for one of many campus publications or if you are interested in finance, be the treasurer for a club you are a member of.
  • Talk with your friends and colleagues about their majors, job experiences, classes and professors, and to see what they plan to do after college.
  • Try asking those whose work interests you why and how they selected their occupations.
  • Begin clarifying your choice of major and broad career goals through discussions with academic and career advisors.
  • Attend the Majors Fair held each fall to learn more about specific requirements and talk to representatives from each department.
  • Apply early to summer internships, jobs, or volunteer work in a field that may interest you.
