Many graduate school require that you take an entrance exam to get into their school. The type of entrance exam you take will vary depending on what type of program, field of study and school you are applying to. The following are some of the most common graduate school exams:


The LSAT

The Law School Admission Test (LSAT) is administered four times a year at designated centers worldwide. The LSAT is a three and a half hour standardized test designed to measure some of the thinking skills considered essential for success in law school. It is required for admission to all 201 law schools that comprise the membership of the Law School Admission Council (LSAC).

The MCAT

The Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) is a prerequisite for admission to nearly all the medical schools in North America. Each year, over 50,000 applicants to American and Canadian medical schools submit MCAT test results. The actual weight given to MCAT scores in the admissions process varies from school to school.

The GRE

The Graduate Records Examinations General Test is primarily a multiple-choice test that most graduate schools use for admission into their graduate programs. The Graduate Record Examination Program, which is administered by the Educational Testing Service, also offers 16 Subject Tests, each of which measures achievements in specific fields.

The GMAT

The Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) measures verbal, quantitative, and analytical writing skills. Graduate schools often use the GMAT to assess the qualifications of applicants to succeed in graduate management programs. The GMAT tests neither specific knowledge of business nor achievement in a particular subject. The GMAT is available in many areas only as a computer-adaptive test.
