SAACS Club Update: Chem Expo ’99
The SAACS club participated in its first major activity of the year
on Saturday, October 30. The entire club of sixteen members split into two groups and
presented chemical reactions during the 1999 Chemistry Exposition at Balboa Park. The
presented chemical reactions were broken down into two sections. The first section
consisted of hands-on demonstrations. The second section consisted of a formal
presentation of five different chemical reactions. The formal presentation took place on
the front stage and lasted almost twenty minutes. Before the presentation, club members
introduced themselves and gave a brief description of their future goals. All of the
students who attended the exposition were allowed to interact with the club members and
ask questions while the presenters performed the chemistry demonstrations.
Every year, the 1999 Chemistry Exposition signifies the beginning
of National Chemistry Week. The entire club felt honored and privileged to have been
involved with such an incredible event like the Annual Chemistry Exposition. All of the
junior high, high school, and college students appeared very excited and interested about
science. Many students expressed gratitude for the time and effort that our club members
invested into making the demonstrations as successful as possible. The 1999 Chemistry
Exposition was a rewarding experience and with a gracious monetary gift donated by Dr. Vic
Heasley, the entire club enjoyed a free lunch at the Hard Rock Café.
