May 2007 Since I am so quick to let you know when we climb in the national year long rankings for the Point Loma Nazarene University debate program, in fairness I should also point out when we slip. Despite winning most of the debate tournaments we have entered lately, we have slipped in the national rankings to Western Kentucky University, which is having a terrific year.
In the current rankings, only the top 20 of which are shown below, they lead us by 6 points. We still have several tournaments not ranked in this system yet, and are hoping that those additional points will allow us to resume the national lead for the year. But it is also possible that Western Kentucky or one of the other programs below will add sufficient points to thwart these attempts. But we will continue to try hard. The NPDA National tournament is in three weeks.
With the number of strong Senior teams we have this year combined with some hard working and quick learning novices and juniors on the squad, we are uniquely positioned to finish strong this year. Next year we will be launching a mostly new crew of students, including those learning the ropes from this year's seniors an some very promising recruits from other programs. Please feel free to send me any recommendations of outstanding students you think might enjoy this activity. We look for smart, hard working, well spoken students of all majors that possess a strong presence when in front of others, and a competitive drive beyond the norm. Not only will they gain important life enhancing skills, but there are still some scholarship opportunities available.
