Channel 3 Airs New Line of Programming
Channel 3: Your Channel is starting up the new semester with a whole line of fresh programs, newscasts, and documentaries.
Student-made programming airs Monday through Friday from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. A variety of shows from newscasts, talk shows, to student films will be featured. Programming from JCTV, a Christian network, will be aired at all other times.
Two episodes of The Beat will be produced this semester, which is a talk show about current issues and events. This student run show will cross some uncomfortable barriers with shows featuring the conflict between Israel and Palestine as well as pornography addiction.
There will also be five new episodes of Coastline News, a bi-weekly newscast covering PLNU news, sports, entertainment, and weather. Reel Students, a show that interviews and follows PLNU student film makers, will air one episode.
This semester will also pilot two new shows. One is called, Journeys, a new documentary program series. It features PLNU students on their individual journey through London last summer during a study abroad program with the Department of Communication and Theatre. The topics of the documentaries range from the Holocaust to spiritual apathy.
Another new show beginning this semester is a music show, produced by Channel 3 Programming and Traffic Manager, Jason Wei, which is still in the pre-production stage. It will feature PLNU musicians, concerts, and even special performances.
Throughout the semester, four new commercials promoting Channel 3: Your Channel will also be produced.
Channel 3 Station Manager, Heather Michel, says she is looking forward to a new semester and the episodes that will be produced. One of her goals is that Channel 3 programming will reflect students’ interests.
“We hope to produce more shows that are relevant to the student population,” said Michel.
With a talented crew, Michel is confident that the level of quality programming will continue after many Channel 3 leaders will graduate in May.
“We have a lot of new students in this semester’s class, but hopefully they will carry the torch to next year,” said Michel. “There’s a lot of potential.”
