Point Loma Students to Accept Awards at National Convention
Communication Students Win Top Honors From Christian Association
SAN DIEGO, CA- Point Loma Nazarene University student Adam Miller will travel to the National Religious Broadcasters (NRB) Convention in Dallas, Texas. He will be traveling at the end of this month to accept two awards on behalf of 19 other Point Loma students.
The Intercollegiate- NRB will be presenting the Point Loma students with two student production awards at the Dallas convention. The projects include “Rita,” which will receive a second place in the TV field production category, as well as “You Got Schooled” a TV studio production receiving third place. All projects in the student production awards are judged by working professionals in a field of over 100 other universities.
The short film “Rita” was completed in April 2005, during the “48 Hours of Madness,” a team competition associated with the BestFest San Diego film festival. A team of five Point Loma students; Jared Callahan, Joel McGinty, Adam Miller, Brad Kester and Bekah Macias, worked together to create, film and edit a five minute film for the competition.
Point Loma’s student-run television station, CCTV3, created “You Got Schooled” in the fall of 2005. The station’s entire staff aided in the production of the award winning show. The students involved include; Adam Miller, Franci Nakamura, Cristina Pacheco, Bekah Macias, Tamilyn Foster, Heather Orum, Owen Clemmons, Wes Phillips, Sean Griffin, Trevor Forssell, David Schulz, Laura Rae, Alyssa Benavides, Kirsten Castro, Morgan McDole and JR Jaus.
Adam Miller emphasizes the fact that both projects were completely student run from beginning to end, without any professional or faculty help. Adam also stated that he is “very grateful for having such amazing and strong crews to work with on these projects.”
Recognition of these two projects is very important to the future of the Media Communication department at Point Loma. Receiving such high awards from a national organization helps distinguish the students from other universities, especially when looking for jobs. Point Loma benefits from having a program that allows student run productions, as well as up-to-date facilities to work in.
The NRB convention will be held at the Gaylord Texan Resort & Convention Center in Dallas, Texas from February 17-22. Adam will be accepting the awards on Monday the 20th.
