After recently receiving awards from the Intercollegiate-National Religious Broadcasters (I-NRB) convention in Dallas, Point Loma student film projects have brought in four top-3 national awards.
The short film Rita, created by Jared Callahan, Joel McGinty, Adam Miller, Brad Kester and Bekah Macias received second place in field production from the I-NRB, as well as a second at the Best Fest. Rita was a project in the 48 Hours of Madness category for Best Fest. The students had 48 hours from the time of receiving the script to film and edit their own short film.
The popular pirate short, Isle Nevis, was accepted as an official selection for the 2006 Independent Film Fest, and the 2005 San Diego Film Fest. In addition to being selected, Isle Nevis received 2nd place at Best Fest in San Diego in the college drama category.
In addition to student films, Point Loma’s student-run television station, CCTV3, received 3rd place in studio production from the I-NRB for its game show, You Got Schooled. The station’s entire staff was involved in the production of the half hour television show that aired on the campus’s closed-circuit television station.
These awards bring recognition to Point Loma’s outstanding program, and put the students involved in these projects ahead of their peers at other universities. Point Loma students benefit from having a program that allows for student run production, as well as up-to-date facilities to work in.
