PLNU Video/Film Facilities Continue to Grow

During the last two years the TV Studio has greatly expanded its studio and field production capabilities. Approximately $80,000 has been spent on new equipment, upgrades, and replacing old equipment. The department is also in the planning stages for an $800,000 (approximate) upgrade to high definition television over the next several years.

The system includes a fully equipped three (3) camera television studio with teleprompter, graphics, lighting and sound capable for producing taped and live programming for PLNU’s cable Channel 3: Your Channel. This is supplemented by the following:

- 5 Macintosh editing stations with Final Cut Pro editing software

- 9 digital video/film cameras, including three Panasonic DVX 100’s, with tripods and assorted microphones

- 5 portable lighting kits, and numerous lighting accessories

- A steadicam junior

- The addition of two high end shotgun mics with fishpoles supplements am ample array of field and studio microphones

- A ten foot camera jib with remote controls and monitoring has also been added

We now have a centralized editing system featuring a state of the art Apple Xsan fiber-channel editing server, with all new MacPro computers. The new server system allows students to edit on multiple editing stations throughout the post-production process.

Two of the six edit stations have enhanced video monitoring and voice over capabilities. Final Cut Studio software has been installed on all edit stations, and includes LiveType (title animation), SoundTrackPro (audio), Compressor (format transcoding), Cinema Tools (film assistance), Color (color adjustment), DVD Studio Pro (DVD production), and Motion (graphic animation).
