Each year, the top students in media communication and broadcast journalism are recognized and given an award. These include The Department of Communication and Literature, Journalism, and Modern Languages “Carol LeBeau Broadcast Journalism Award,” and the Department of Communication and Theatre “Excellence in Media Communication Award.” The awards are given annually to the top students in the broadcast journalism and media communication majors that exhibit excellence and leadership in their courses and projects at PLNU.
The winner of the LeBeau award for 2007 was Heidi Ortlip (‘07 grad), who interned at a local network TV affiliate, and is now a writer for the local Fox6 News Morning Show. While at PLNU she served as the Coastline News Program Manager, and was in charge of producing ten live newscasts. She also served as anchor, reporter, and weather reporter, and hosted several other shows on PLNU”s cable Channel 3: Your Channel.
The winner of the “Excellence in Media Communication Award” went to Christina Fung (’07 grad). Christina wrote and produced a variety of programs for Channel 3, and hosted several shows. And, with a black belt in Tae Kwon Do, Christina even appeared in an award-winning student-produced TV commercial as a martial arts warrior.
