Looking for an outgoing, self starting student (Senior or Junior preferred) who is considering a career in marketing or journalism. We are a small incorporated specialty concessions company with upcoming operations at the San Diego County Fair. We need a person who can help us take advantage of the numerous opportunities for earned media that we encounter each year as the local TV, Radio, Print and internet outlets descend on the fair looking for stories. This will offer the right person a once in a lifetime opportunity to be featured on the morning and evening news, be interviewed on radio stations, and to be quoted in the paper. Each year we can only capitalize on a small percentage of the available opportunities for free press because we cannot break away from running our food stands to spend time with the media. The right person will be able to come away from this experience with an impressive portfolio of earned media that should help open doors to future career opportunities. Anybody in the marketing business will attest to the amount of work it takes to generate earned media but this opportunity is truly unique in that the media actually wants to talk to you. Our primary business is A Deep Fried specialty dessert which is exactly what the media wants to talk about. Primary Tasks Coordinate with the Del Mar Fairgrounds marketing director for press interviews. This will provide the primary contacts for television interviews but you will also have to reach out to the local stations for additional coverage (Interviews for the morning news will often require you to be at the fairgrounds or news station by 4:00 AM) Arrange with radio stations to bring food to the station while they are on the air and for them to give out gift certificates to call in contestants. Bring food to radio stations that have booths at the fair and have them mention the products on the air. Contact the person covering the fair for local papers and arrange interviews. Must be able to work with the owner to put together appropriate press releases Conduct marketing research interviewing people at the fair to gauge product awareness. Requirements, Person must be a self starter who can work well with little supervision. Must be comfortable in front of a television camera and speaking on the radio, and enjoy interaction with people. Spanish speaking is a plus but not a requirement 10 to 20 hours a week during May Approx 40 hours a week June-July 7th
