Residential Life Announcements
SUMMER RA - Interested in serving as an RA this Summer? Applications are currently available in Residential Life and are due by 4:30 p.m. Friday, March 14th. Summer RAs earn $2000 for the summer and receive free housing. You are required to be available for move in and out (Weeks of May 12 and August 4). You're required to enroll for at least 2 units of summer school per session OR be employed part-time. Questions can be e-mailed to Bill Hunt (summer RD) at bhunt@pointloma.edu or call ext. 2749.

Academic Announcements
*ATTENTION ALL JUNIORS! - Juniors are eligible for one preliminary grad check with the Records Office. Spaces are limited, so stop by the Records Office to fill out a Grad Check Request. Appointments are available for the month of March on a first come, first served basis. Come get your grad check before Advising Chapel in April.
CHANGING YOUR MAJOR AND/OR MINOR? - Students who wish to change their major and/or minor must go to Academic Advising to make this change. Academic Advising is located in the Bond Academic Center.
Financial and Scholarship Announcements
3RD ANNUAL PARKER PIKE NONPROFIT MARKETING SCHOLARSHIP - The American Marketing Association, San Diego Chapter will award $1,000 to a San Diego County college student who has demonstrated exemplary application of business and marketing practices to help a local, regional, or national nonprofit organization that is a legally recognized 501 [c] [3] tax-exempt charitable organization. The scholarship is available to all college students (undergraduate and graduate level) attending any San Diego County college or university, full or part-time. The recently extended deadline is Friday, February 29, 2008 at 5 p.m. E-mail completed scholarship application form and one letter of recommendation from a university instructor or nonprofit leader to: info-sandiego@marketingpower.com. AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF UNIVERSITY WOMEN, SAN DIEGO SCHOLARSHIP FUND - AAUW scholarship awards are both merit- and need-based. Candidates must be full-time students working toward a baccalaureate degree or credential who have earned at least 60 semester units with a GPA of 3.4 or higher. Scholarship applications and additional information may be obtained from www.aauwsandiego.org. Extended deadline for applications: April 14, 2008.
AMERICAN DREAM SCHOLARSHIP - In partnership with the United Negro College Fund, the American Dream Scholarship Program is open to African Americans with financial need. Applicants must be US citizens or permanent residents with a minimum 2.5 GPA who meet Pell Grant eligibility criteria and who are also enrolled full-time at approved, accredited, undergraduate institutions. Scholarships range from $500 to $5,000. For additional information and applications, visit www.uncf.org.
ASSOCIATION FOR WOMEN IN ARCHITECTURE FOUNDATION--2008 SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS - Cash awards will be given to women students who have completed at least 18 units in their major in a program granting a degree or certificate in one of the following majors: architecture; civil, structural, mechanical or electrical engineering as related to architecture; landscape architecture; urban and land planning; interior design; or environmental design. Applicants must be California residents or attending an accredited school in California. Applications and guidelines for submission may be obtained from the AWAF website at www.awa-la.org/scholarships.php. Deadline for applications: April 15, 2008.
KPRI BROADCAST SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM - Candidates must be San Diego residents enrolled or planning to enroll in a broadcast or related curriculum at an accredited educational institution. Candidates must also have a minimum GPA of 2.5 and be considered a student in good standing. Applications should be signed by a department head or high school advisor, certifying the applicant meets the eligibility criteria. 3 letters of recommendation from a college professor, broadcast professional and/or other business person should also be submitted. ALEXANDER KREIGLOWA MILITARY DEPENDENTS EDUCATION FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS - The Navy League of the US San Diego Council for graduating seniors in the top 10% of high school graduating class awards up to $15,000 per year for tuition, books, and fees for a maximum of 4 years. Candidates must be dependents of an active duty, retired, or deceased Naval Service (USN or USMC) Resident in California. Candidates must further show financial need and evidence of acceptance for fall 2008 by an accredited college or university in the US. FIRST IN MY FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP - Developed in partnership with the Hispanic College Fund, the First in My Family Scholarship Program offers scholarships to Hispanic-American students who are the first in their family to attend college and have financial need. Applicants must be Hispanic Americans who are US citizens or permanent residents enrolled as full-time undergraduate students at approved, accredited institutions. Students must have a 3.0 GPA. Scholarships range from $500 to $5,000. For applications and additional information, visit: www.hispanicfund.org. Deadline: April 15, 2008.
CALIFORNIA STRAWBERRY GROWERS’ SCHOLARSHIP FUND - This fund is supported by California strawberry growers, shippers, processors, and affiliated industry members. Applicants must be children of strawberry farm workers and have at least one parent currently employed (for at least 2 consecutive seasons) in the California strawberry harvest. Growers and their families, permanent staff, and board members of the California Strawberry Commission or their families are not eligible. All applicants must be sponsored by a legitimate California strawberry grower. For the first time this year, students who are currently enrolled but didn’t receive funding through the California Strawberry Scholarship Program for their first year are also eligible to apply. READ FASTER WITH THE PQ3R: Preview-Question-Read-Recite-Review
1. Preview: Examine visuals, read first sentence, note bold and italicized words, read last paragraph of summary, read vocabulary terms and meanings
2. Question: Compose your own questions, turn headings into questions to find out what the author wants you to know
3. Read: Read as fast as possible getting the main ideas, mark selectively key points. Read and highlight first sentence of paragraphs.
4. Recite: Look at main ideas and summarize them aloud, compose a summary word or phrase and label the selection in the margin
5. Review: Review your highlighting and key words, answer questions posed earlier
