*A LETTER OF INVITATION TO THE STUDENT BODY FROM DR. BRAD KELLE - Have you ever heard someone refer to certain churches or beliefs as “evangelical” and wondered about it? Have you ever heard talk about “evangelicals” in American politics and wondered where it all came from? If so, consider sitting in on one of the presentations during PLNU’s only annual academic lecture series, the H. Orton Wiley Lectures in Theology, sponsored by the School of Theology and Christian Ministry. On February 21-26, 2008 come get the chance to hear some important scholars from other schools discuss these issues.
The School of Theology and Christian Ministry Presents: The 2008 H. Orton Wiley Lectures in Theology, “American Evangelicalism: Past, Present, and Future,” Dr. George M. Marsden, University of Notre Dame and Dr. Stan Ingersol, International Church of the Nazarene, February 21-26, 2008.
All lectures held in the Crill Auditorium. Schedule of Lectures for Dr. Marsden:

2. “How ‘Otherworldly’ 20th-Century Evangelicalism Became a Political Power” – Thursday, February 21, 2008, 1:30 -2:30 p.m. in Crill Auditorium.
3. “Evangelicals and Secular/Religious America” – Friday, February 22, 2008, 11 a.m.-12:15 p.m. in Crill Auditorium.
Schedule of Lectures for Dr. Ingersol:

2. “Past and Prospect: The Nazarene Future in Light of Its History” – Tuesday, February 26, 2008, 9:30-10:45 a.m. in Crill Auditorium.
Auditorium - A Brief Description of This Year’s Series: The 2008 H. Orton Wiley Lectures undertake a reflective and constructive examination of American evangelicalism, as illuminated by the dynamics of the movement in general and the realities of a specific case study. American evangelicalism is a complex religious, cultural, and political entity, whose influence remains prevalent - even as its identity remains somewhat in flux. In these lectures, given near the end of the first decade of the twenty-first century, we consider the historical development, contemporary manifestations, and potential future(s) of American evangelicalism. We also look to the Church of the Nazarene, one of the denominations that have stood within the broader evangelical movement, as a case study. Organized in 1908, and now approaching its centennial, this Church’s self-reflection may further illuminate the realities and complexities of American evangelicalism, past, present, and future. http://www.pointloma.edu/SchoolofTheologyChristianMinistry/WileyLectures
