*DEAN'S LIST FOR FALL 2007 – You may be interested to know that the Dean's List for the 2007 fall semester is now posted on the University's Website. You can find it @ http://www.pointloma.edu/Academics/DeansList.htm.
*LAST DAY TO DROP CLASSES - The last day to drop Quad I classes is February 1st. The last day to drop semester classes (16 weeks classes) is March 25th.

*FREE PRACTICE TEST - PLNU Mission Valley CAMPUS - Are you considering going on to one of the following grad schools? Medical School, Law School, Business School, Dental School, Optometry School, Pharmacy School, or any other Graduate School? To get into one of the previous schools, you must take a graduate entrance exam. They are not easy and require a lot of preparation. Come take one of our free practice exams at the Point Loma-Mission Valley campus. This is an amazing way to see how you would score if you were to take the test that day. You will get a detailed score report back showing you where you went wrong and why. You will also be given a copy of all the explanations for every single question seen on the exam - why all the right answers are right and why all the wrong answers are wrong. Best of all, it's completely FREE for you, so you really have no excuse not to give it your best shot! You MUST pre-register as these events fill up fast. You can pre-register by calling 1-800-KAP-TEST or by going to kaptest.com under the "free events" link on the left hand side. Details of the events are: Free Practice Test - Point Loma, Mission Valley campus Saturday, February 16th, MCAT, LSAT, OAT - 9 a.m.; GMAT, DAT - 9:30 a.m.; GRE, PCAT – 10 a.m. Registration begins 30 minutes before each test. This year, we are partnering with Second Harvest Food Bank here in San Diego. We will be collecting food items and monetary donations. For every $1 or every food item you bring to the event, you will receive a raffle ticket. The more you bring, the more raffle tickets you will get. 100% of the donations received will go to the San Diego Second Harvest Food Bank. Financial and Scholarship Announcements
*CAL GRANT FIRST TIME APPLICANTS - Students applying for a Cal Grant for the first time in the 2008-2009 Academic Year (Fall 2008 and Spring 2009) must go to the Records Office to request a GPA Verification to be sent to CSAC (California Student Aid Commission). The deadline for submitting forms to our office is February 29th. If you attended another institution last semester, THAT institution must provide the verification.
*$16,000 IN SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE - The Alumni Association is awarding 8 scholarships of $2,000 each. Apply at www.pointloma.edu/aes. Deadline for applications and two letters of recommendation is February 18th.
HEALTH INSURANCE WAIVER - IMPORTANT: The deadline for waiving or accepting the University's health insurance for the Spring semester is FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 1, 2008. Waiving or accepting the health insurance must be done through your student portal. If you waived the health insurance in the Fall semester, you do not need to do it again in the Spring. All students who have not waived their health insurance by February 1st will be charged a $320 health insurance premium for the Spring semester. The health insurance fee cannot be waived after this date, even if you have other insurance coverage. CAL GRANT DEADLINE IS MARCH 2, 2008 - If you would like to apply for a Cal Grant for the first time in the 2008-2009 Academic Year (Fall 2008 and Spring 2009), you must go to the Records Office to request a GPA Verification to be sent to CSAC (California Student Aid Commission) AND file a 2008/2009 FAFSA at www.fafsa.ed.gov by MARCH 2, 2008.

Wellness Center Announcements
*FLU CLINIC - The Wellness Center has a few flu vaccines left. The flu clinic is open on a walk-in basis, Monday thru Friday, 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m.; closed during chapel MWF 9:30-10:30 a.m. No appointments are necessary. Upon receiving the flu vaccine, please plan on staying in the Wellness Center an additional 15 minutes per our immunization policy. The flu season runs through March.
SUPPORT GROUPS - Confidential Support Groups for students are now forming in the Wellness Center:
Grief and Loss.
Have you experienced the loss of a loved one? Sharing experiences, along with professional support, is a valuable tool in overcoming deep grief. The Wellness Center has designed a Grief and Loss Support Group for those students who have lost a family member or close friend. This group will help you understand the process of grieving, help you cope with your emotions, and assist you in planning for your future without your loved one.
Relationships without regret.
Whether you are sexually pure, hanging on to your virginity by a thread, or sleeping with someone, you can maintain and/or reclaim your sexual integrity not just throughout your youth, but throughout your whole life. Join this group to learn to guard your mind, heart, and body against sexual compromise and develop skills to maneuver your way through your single years with grace… and without regrets.
Hearts and Homes Divided: Coping with the Effects of Your Parents' Separation & Divorce.
This group is for students whose parents have separated, divorced, or are in the process. Participants will learn about the short and long term effects of divorce on children/adults. The purpose of this group is to learn how to deal with and understand the impact that your parents' divorce may have on you, as well as to identify with, encourage and support other group members.
Managing Moods.
Do you find that you struggle with negative emotions that get you into trouble sometimes? Join this group to learn a variety of cognitive and behavioral strategies that will help you think and feel better. Participants become skilled at problem solving, time management, assertiveness, conflict resolution, relaxation techniques, and changing problematic moods and behaviors.
Preparing to leave PLNU.
Are you graduating and feeling uncertain about what is next? Join this group to discuss with others your ambivalence about leaving Pt. Loma. Share your nervous excitement (or dread) with others!
My Family Drives Me Crazy!
Do you feel like your family just doesn’t get it? Do you sometimes feel like you don’t fit in with your own family? Join this group to discover how your family has impacted your development and to learn skills for relating with your parents as an adult.

DONATE A MEAL FOR HOMELESS MINISTRY - This semester you have the opportunity to donate up to one caf meal a week to Bread of Life, a homeless ministry on campus. *CYRUS CHESTNUT, JAZZ PIANIST - FREE CONCERT- JAZZ AT THE POINT: CYRUS CHESTNUT, JAZZ - We are happy to announce the return of Cyrus Chestnut to the PLNU campus. This outstanding jazz pianist has played with everyone from Quincy Jones to Betty Parker while maintaining his own solo career. And this is a program that no one should miss if you love great music or if you are just getting to know about music. The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. in Crill Performance on January 22. This event is FREE for ALL.
POINT LOMA PIANO SERIES: PAUL KENYON, PIANIST - Piano soloist Paul Kenyon will be demonstrating his technical virtuosity and his passion for music with a performance in Crill Performance Hall on Friday, January 25 at 7:30 p.m. His concert will include the music of composers Scarlatti Chopin and Villa-Lobos. This concert is FREE to students, faculty and staff. $15 Adults, $12 Students, senior citizens, children and military.
*SALOMON THEATRE PRESENTS THE MAIDS - In this play by Jean Claude Genet, two French maids take turns pretending to be the rich lady of the house, acting out their own vicious charades. The production runs from January 29-February 2 at 8 p.m., and February 2 at 5 p.m. Tickets will be on sale outside the Caf 12-1 p.m. and at the Salomon Theatre Box Office from 1-4 p.m.. Tickets for PLNU students/faculty/staff are $8, Adults are $10.
