MIND OVER MATTER
Improve Your Performance with Mental Conditioning
Winning a race takes both physical and mental conditioning. The race to the academic finish line involves many sprints and some marathons. Mental conditioning is crucial for focus and endurance.
Visualize it! Imagine going through the steps and finishing the academic task. Visualization will help you believe you can do it. It will also relieve stress.
Sharpen your focus! Find a study space as free of distractions as possible, but also train yourself to focus. Take a few deep breaths and give yourself a pep talk. Remember to focus on things you can control, rather than all the unknowns.
Set realistic goals! Break the task into small steps and make sure your goals are SMART: Specific, Measurable, Action-oriented, Realistic and Time-sensitive.
Give yourself a prize! It’s important to reward yourself every time you reach a goal. Do the hard work first; then take a break to do something you enjoy.
