Public Safety Announcements


*SUMMER VEHICLE STORAGE - PUBLIC SAFETY If you plan on leaving your vehicles on campus during the summer you will need to stop by the Public Safety office during the next two weeks and fill out a form. You must have a spare key to leave with your form at that time. Keys will not be accepted at the Welcome Center. Parking for the summer will be at the lower end of Flex Hill facing the track and down the hill. Please be sure your vehicle is locked securely and nothing of value is visible.

If you plan on going on a Mission Trip and leaving your vehicle on campus you will also need to fill out a form and park in the same location. A spare key is not necessary. Please see Mandy for a storage form.

Bicycles may be left at your Resident Hall only with the RD’s permission.
Motorcycles are not allowed to be stored on campus for the summer.

Academic Announcements


*FINAL WEEK OF COMMENCEMENT TICKET DISTRIBUTION -
Members of the graduating class of 2008: This is the final week of ticket distribution in the Records Office. The office is open Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

SUMMER SCHOOL COURSES - If you are planning to take a course this summer at another college/university, please stop by the Records Office with the course description and be sure to fill out our course approval form. This form needs to be submitted to and approved by the Records Office before the end of the spring semester. If you take any courses that are not pre-approved, you may not receive the credit you anticipated.

FALL 2008 MARTIAL ARTS PE COURSE SET - Fall 2008, PED 102 (section 4) has been set up for the ongoing martial arts course. Please send questions to Tom Blamey (tomblamey@pointloma.edu). http://www.obmartialarts.com/11.html

SAT II LANGUAGE EXAM - The LJML Dept. will give the SAT II Language Exam in French, German and Spanish, August 25, 2008 at 4 p.m. in BAC103. Qualifications for taking the exam: At least 3 years of the language and it has been less than two years since your last language class. Cost is $17.00 when you sign up with Edie or Rachel in the BAC main office before May 9th.

Financial and Scholarship Announcements


*UNMET NEED SCHOLARSHIP - Open to families with a combined income of $30,000 or less, this program supplements financial aid packages that fall more than $1,000 short of students’ financial needs. The Unmet Need Scholarship Program is open to US citizens and permanent residents who are accepted or enrolled as full-time undergraduate students at approved, accredited institutions. Students must have a minimum 2.5 GPA to be eligible to apply. Recipients are selected based on financial need. Scholarships range from $1,000 to $3,800. *STUDENT-TEACHER SCHOLARSHIP - Area XI, Division 69, East County, San Diego, CA Retired Teachers Association pledges up to three $1500 scholarships for the 2008-09 school year. Scholarship money is to be used for tuition and/or books and supplies during student-teaching semesters. Applicants who have already completed student-teaching or who will not be student-teaching during the year of the scholarship are not eligible. Applicants must have a BA, be enrolled in the teacher-training program of the University, and be a resident of San Diego County. *CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY CREDIT UNION SCHOLARSHIP - Christian Community Credit Union’s Focused on the Future Scholarship Program offers $40,000 in scholarships ranging from $500 to $2,000. Recipients must be members of Christian Community Credit Union and enrolled at an accredited college, university, or seminary taking 12 units or more for undergraduate students and 8 units or more for graduate and post-graduate students. *ARE YOU READY TO GRADUATE?? - If you are a graduating senior, you are likely getting very excited and maybe a little stressed out as graduation approaches. In the midst of all this, we want to remind you of some details that you don’t want to forget. Please make sure to check your account online regularly as we approach the end of the semester so that you can keep your account paid in full. In accordance with university policy, you will not be allowed to pick up your cap and gown or walk in the graduation ceremony if you owe ANY money on your student account. Also, many fines will not be posted until the week of graduation (e.g., chapel fines, mail key fines, and dorm fines.) You should also be aware that checks will not be accepted as payment on your account after April 21st. We have enjoyed working with you during your time at PLNU, and we look forward to seeing you receive your diploma. Congratulations on this awesome achievement! KNOW WHAT YOU OWE: MANDATORY STUDENT LOAN INFORMATION –

Attention Graduating Seniors with Stafford and Alternative Loans:

If you are graduating and you have received a Federal Stafford Loan and/or Alternative Private Loan during your tenure here at PLNU, you must complete a mandatory Stafford Loan Exit Interview. This interview will review your rights and responsibilities as a borrower, and will include information on your alternative loans if you have one.

Interviews are available for the following days and times in Draper Hall:

Monday April 28th – Thursday May 1st at 11 a.m. or 3 p.m.
Friday May 2nd at 11 a.m.

Students who attend will be provided with details about their current loan balances and repayment options.

Your interview will be in a group setting and usually lasts about 45 minutes. In order to serve you better, please contact Student Financial Services to reserve a day and time by calling (619) 849-2538 or e-mailing sfs@pointloma.edu. Refreshments will be served.

Summer Admissions Interns: The Admissions Office is looking for Nazarene students that will be returning to their districts this summer. The Intern would help Admissions collect names of prospective students and represent PLNU on your local Nazarene district camps and other NYI events. Art, Music, Theater, Literary and Film Announcements


*ANNUAL PLNU TV AND FILM FESTIVAL -
The annual PLNU TV and Film Festival is this Thursday, May 1, beginning at 6:30 p.m. in Salomon Theatre. Come watch the best student produced films and television shows of the year! Divine Pastabilities and dessert will be served afterwards. Everyone is welcome! Brought to you by Channel Three, “Your Channel.”

*PLNU STUDENT CHAMBER GROUP WINS A SPOT AT THE CENTRUM CHAMBER MUSIC FESTIVAL - PLNU String Quartet members Lisa Freed, violin; Jessica Jenkins, violin; Rachel Smyth, viola; and Peter DeChant, cello have won a competitive spot in this summer's Centrum Chamber Music Festival in Port Townsend, Washington. The musicians will receive intensive instruction and coaching by world-renowned chamber musicians, including the Tokyo String Quartet. Keep your eyes and ears open for notice of any fund raising events the quartet will host in order to raise money for this opportunity.

*CHAMBER ORCHESTRA PERFORMS CONCERTO CONCERT - The PLNU Chamber Orchestra, under the direction of Philip Tyler will perform its final concert on Friday, May 2 at 7:30 p.m. Crill Performance Hall. Admission is FREE. Featured musicians include Peter DeChant, cello; Abby Greathouse, piano; Claire Massey, piano; Makenzie Copp, percussion and Shannon Sandison, flute.

*JAZZ AT THE POINT FEATURING PLNU VOCALISTS - The final "Jazz at the Point" event is all PLNU. The concert features PLNU's Jazz Band and special vocal performance by PLNU vocalists such as Kendall and Kelsey Richardson. This final jazz concert of the year is one of the warmest and happiest of all the concerts. Saturday, May 3, Crill Performance Hall. Admission is free to PLNU Students. All others are $12 and $15.

*REBECCA DUCKWORTH AND MEGAN ROOT IN RECITAL - Megan and Rebecca are pleased to present a special duets recital on Sunday, May 4 at 3 p.m. This recital features Show Tunes and vignettes and is the perfect way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Crill Performance Hall. Admission is FREE!

*SPRING MUSIC FESTIVAL - Mark your calendars for the Spring Music Festival on Friday, May 9, 7:30 p.m. in Crill Performance Hall. This concert will showcase the best that the PLNU Music Department has to offer and will also pay honor to our graduating seniors. Admission is FREE!

THE CHAMBER MUSIC ENSEMBLES -
This semester's performance of the Chamber Music Ensembles will have more variety than you can imagine. There are string trios and quartets, piano quartets and a "heavy metal" performance by "Scrolls of Discord"--a really hot cello ensemble. This is not a performance to miss! Tuesday, April 29, 7:30 p.m., Crill Performance Hall. Admission is Free!

Steps to Avoid Exam Burnout

· Before the Test:

        -Attend Class

        -Review in short chunks everyday

        -Get facts about the test

        -Study actively, not passively

        -Make-up practice test questions

· During the Test:

        -Do easy questions first

        -Begin essay questions with a thesis

        -Check over entire paper/test

· After the Test:

        -Analyze what you did wrong

        -Note what you did right
